1982 ~ 2015
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.”
Kevin was born on June 30th, 1982 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. He was Ken & Janine’s pride and joy. Kevin attended Lyndale School from kindergarten to grade 12. He started playing baseball and hockey at the age of 5…..now this kid had a “mean” wrist shot to the top corner that made every goalie cringe, and speed….one tough little bugger. As he got a little older he loved his dirt biking and his very first bike was a Yamaha XT225. Kevin and Jory were inseparable and could have been seen riding their dirt bikes all over the place. There were many family trips taken over the years at various locations such as, Black Hills, South Dakota, Alberta, B.C. and Dauphin, Manitoba. One can’t forget the many fishing trips to various locations in northern Saskatchewan. It is no wonder Kevin loved fishing as much as he did. When the big 16th birthday came along Kevin got his first vehicle, an ‘81 Trans AM, which would be followed by the 1989 Red Chevy ½ ton. He could be heard roaring around in it a time or two and said it would be Dylan’s first truck. In May of 2000 Kevin graduated from Lyndale School and it was a moment of great pride and as always comes the realization that one day they are little and in the blink of an eye they are grown up. In the fall of 200o Kevin enrolled in a welding course at the Southeast Community College and excelled at it. After finishing he worked at a variety of jobs, Muirhead Manufacturing, Crooked Coulee Repair and Randy Olsen welding. He loved them all. As well Kevin spent some time working on the rigs and custom combining in Oklahoma with Dusty, Wayne and Mavis Storle, before taking the big leap into farming fulltime with his dad. In 2002 Kevin moved into Dorothy Geib’s house which is on the original Young homestead. Kevin loved farming but in his free time he enjoyed biking, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He took many trips snowmobiling with all his special buddies. His love for hunting was instilled in him at a young age and he and his dad made yearly trips in the fall for moose, elk, mule deer and white tail deer. In October of this year Kevin and his dad went up north to the cabin for elk season. In 2000 Kevin had shot a “book” white tail – measuring in at 195 7/8 getting his name published in the Henry Kelsey Record Book – yet another proud moment for all. Just last year Kevin, Ken and Janine went hunting up north as Janine had been drawn for moose, and we all like to rub it in that Janine got her moose. There wasn’t a season Kevin didn’t like…..there was always something to do that he loved no matter what time of year it was. In 2003 Kevin got his first Black Lab puppy, Tikka, and she was his pride and joy. They were inseparable and would go together pheasant hunting. A few years later Kevin met Shannon. They took many trips together their first trip was to Duck Mountain where they went snowmobiling with Dusty Storle and Tyrell Lohse. On June 5th, 2007 Kevin and Shannon became the proud parents to a handsome little boy – Dylan Gerald. He brought such great joy to both of them. On October 4th, 2008 Kevin and Shannon were married at Duck Mountain Provincial Park. At the start we wondered why the wedding would be there…..until we arrived and discovered how beautiful it was. They went to Kasba Lake, NWT on a fishing trip for their honeymoon. Kevin caught an Artic Grayling and a 60lb Lake Trout…..he sure loved his fishing. In 2010 Kevin purchased the house on the Don McNeil farm from Dennis Melby and moved his family there. Kevin was always proud of his yard and always had something to show you every time you went for a visit. Keeping a great yard was always a priority in his life. On January 20th, 2011 Kevin and Shannon became parents once again to a beautiful baby girl, Aylish Janine. He was so proud of his kids…it seemed like they were always with him, whether he was in the water truck, semi or just cruising around looking at the country side. Kevin, Shannon, Dylan and Aylish took many trips together to places such as Amask Lake, the Black Hills, Waskiskiew and Besnard Lake, just to name a few. As Dylan grew older is was hard to see who actually enjoyed fishing more, Kevin or Dylan. It was a pretty tight race between them. As well Kevin and Shannon enjoyed travelling as a couple and took two trips to Jamaica with Venessa and Dusty Storle. They also went sledding at Green Water Provincial Park and just last January enjoyed a vacation in Punta Cana. The last few years of farming have been an entire family effort with Kevin being the sole seeder. Between Kevin and his dad they were able to get all the spraying done with two combines, one grain cart and two semis. Kevin, his dad and Scott were able to get all the crops harvested in record time. This year Kevin was even able to teach Dylan how to run the grain cart and Dylan in turn was a quick learner and did a great job. It would seem that Dylan has the farming blood like his dad and Aylish will be the next sprayer girl, she was always up at the crack of dawn and ready to go with her dad. Kevin will be sadly missed by his family and friends. A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Oungre memorial Regional Park at 1:00 p.m. with Father Andrei Kachur presiding. Interment followed at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Tribune, Saskatchewan. Pallbearers were Jory Ashworth, Dustin Storle, Lance Locken, Jason Tosczak, Mike Kopec and Tyrell Lohse. Donations in memory of Kevin may be made to the Dylan & Aylish Trust Fund at Radius Credit Union, Tribune Branch.
