1950 ~ 2015
Larry James Schmidt passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5, 2015 surrounded by his wife, Adele and other members of his family. Larry was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Gwen Schmidt, mother and father-in-law, Bob and Phyllis Hitchcock and great niece, Brandi Panasiuk. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Adele Schmidt of Lang, SK; sister, Carol (Keith) Dreger of Regina, SK; brothers, Warren (Arlene) Schmidt of Watson, SK and Daryl (Val) Schmidt of Lang, SK; sister-in-law, Peggy (Stan) Jeeves of Wolsely as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, relatives and good friends. Larry was born to Roy and Gwen in Regina, SK on September 14, 1950 and grew up on the family farm with his two brothers and one sister. Larry married Adele Hitchcock on October 27, 1976 and continued to farm alongside his father and brother, Daryl for many years. As well as farming, Larry took on a new career as custodian. He began in the Lang School and when they closed he moved on to a variety of custodial positions until his passing. Larry loved small town life and he was liked and respected by the people in his community. When he was not busy farming, Larry loved football, curling, baseball and a good game of cards. His skill at woodworking was displayed by the lovely work both inside and outside of his home. Larry embraced his Catholic faith and was an active parishioner in several parishes. He attended in Lang, Riceton and Milestone and when these parishes closed he moved on to Wilcox and eventually St. Vincent de Paul in Weyburn. Larry loved to travel and some of his most memorable were bus trips to Blue Jays games, curling events and music concerts. Other trips included Nashville, Branson, Hawaii, Alaska and Disneyland. Larry had a gentle nature. He believed that family and friends were the most important things in life. He worked hard to follow the message contained in his beloved “Serenity Prayer.” Larry will be sadly missed by many. A Catholic Memorial Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. from the Lang Community Hall in Lang, Saskatchewan with Father Gerry Bauche celebrating. Interment followed at the Lang Cemetery. Donations in memory of Larry may be made to the Regina Humane Society of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre.
