
Sophie Dorothy (nee: Chowaniec) Leas, wife of Clarence Leas of Fillmore, SK passed away on November 17, 2010 at Fillmore at the age of 88 years. She is predeceased by her parents, John and Karolina Chowaniec, three brothers, five sisters, two sons; Marlowe and John and one infant daughter, Mary-Ann.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of 63 years, Clarence; her daughter, Bonnie Swanstrom of Melfort; her son, Gerald (Shannon) and their children, Tyler, Christopher and Jeremy of Griffin; and Marlowe and Karen’s children, Kristen, Brianne and Keith of Abbottsford; and great grandchildren, Jacob and Morgan; one sister, Helen Welta of Regina; and one brother, Rudy (Theresa) Chowaniec of Edmonton; one brother-in-law, Quinn Mann of Duncan, BC and many nieces and nephews.
Sophie came to the Fillmore area in 1928. Her father was a farmer, so Sophie soon learned much about farm life, which she enjoyed. Later, she became a school teacher and taught for 4 years. The she worked in Ast’s store and Café in Fillmore. She also hired out to people that needed short term help. She married Clarence in 1947, so it was back to the farm. She enjoyed her family, her housework, needlework, cooking and most of all-gardening. She loved to go out, pull a few weeds, hoe a bit and then sit and rest in her chair where she felt at Peace and closer to nature and to God.
A Funeral Service was held on Monday, November 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapels, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Rev. Nick Judson officiating. Interment followed in Fillmore Cemetery, Fillmore, SK. Donations in memory of Sophie may be made to the Fillmore United Church or to the Fillmore Health Center, Fillmore, SK. Arrangements under the direction of Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK.
