April 26th, 1918 – July 17th, 2018
Fowler; Walter Davidson, born April 26, 1918, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2018 at the age of 100 years. Walter was born to Peter Sr. and Mary Fowler at the homestead in the Rockfield District. He was the youngest of seven children. In 1924 the family moved to a farm near Yeoman, SK. He attended Elmdale School until completion of Grade 10. He helped with farming and operation of the store and post office in Yeoman. In 1942 he enlisted in the army and served overseas as a Parts Department Warehouseman, dispensing repair parts for army tanks and trucks. He returned home in 1946 and worked on the farm in the summer and in a mine in Kimberly, BC in the winter. In 1949 he married Irene Elsie Greuel who was boarding at his sister and brother-in-laws (Mary and Earl Gallinger) while teaching at Meadowbrook School. They resided on the farm as Dad's parents had retired to Creston, BC. Dad and his brother Peter purchased the farm and had a mixed farming operation until 1984 when they moved into Weyburn and Peter had retired to Riondel, BC. Dad was not only a farmer, he also drove School bus for the Weyburn School District for 23 years. As a youth, Dad was involved in the Trossachs Boy Scouts, the Bush Rabbits ball team and played hockey. He was an avid ball player and he passed the knowledge and love of the game onto all of his children. In the 1935-36 school year, his school district won the shield for inter-school competition by playing and winning 60 games with Dad pitching them all. He also enjoyed snaring gophers with his brother Dave, and he even made a little money as the government paid 1 cent per tail. Dad and Mom had 5 children who were all raised on the farm. Dad was a leader of the Brokenshell 4-H beef club for a few years as his kids were all members. Dad loved to play cards, especially cribbage and never turned down an offer to play a game of crib. He also played whist and was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Weyburn Wheatland Centre and the Elks Club. He enjoyed floor shuffleboard, pool and bowling and after moving into the WSCH in October of 2011, he enjoyed attending most of the recreation activities and was gold medalist 3 years running in the WSCH Olympics; he never lost the knack of throwing accurately. April 28th, 2018, Dad celebrated his 100th Birthday with a party that family and many relatives and friends attended. It was a fantastic day and wonderful celebration of his life. Dad is predeceased by his parents, Peter Sr. and Mary Fowler, 6 siblings and their spouses, wife, Irene in 1987 and 1 daughter, Patricia Evert in 1991, 3 sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law and their spouses.
