It is with heavy hearts that the family of Wayne Carl Nelson announces his passing. Wayne left us suddenly on the morning of December 26, 2014 in Regina, SK, at the age of 68 years.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Mickalene and Carl Nelson; and an infant grandson, Rhys Nelson. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Geri Nelson of Weyburn, SK; daughter, Chantelle Sauer of Blackfalds, AB and her children, Jadin, Kalyn and Kenzy; son, Jace (Nicole) Nelson of Weyburn, SK and their children, Damon, Lexi, Deklan and Ava; brother Ron Nelson of Lethbridge, AB; sister Karen (Huby) Kallen of Brooks, AB; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and good friends.
Many phrases have been used to describe Wayne: “He was one of a kind”, “He was a great man”, and…”He was stubborn”. Wayne loved to tell stories, and he was good at it too. He would get his arms and legs into the story and you couldn’t help but feel that you were reliving the moment with him.
Wayne was an integral part of the martial arts community in Weyburn. As an accomplished black belt, he passed along his skills and knowledge of the sport to young and developing individuals. He also taught classes on the art of Tai Chi, and even wrote a book on The Exercises of Tai Chi.
Wayne was an avid movie lover, and would spend almost every Tuesday night at the Soo Theatre in downtown Weyburn, enjoying the movie theatre experience and of course the popcorn.
Wayne’s business was antiques and collectibles. It was his job and paid the bills, but it was also his passion. He was always on the hunt for that special treasure, and many of his family members were brought along for the adventure.
But Wayne’s greatest treasure of all was his wife, Geri. The love that they had for each other far surpassed any love story. From the dancing in the living room, to the gentle kisses and winks that they shared when they thought no one was looking. Until his last breathe, Wayne only had eyes for his Geri.
A memorial service for Wayne was held on December 29, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Fletcher Funeral Chapel, with Wayne’s sister Karen Kallen officiating. Following the service all in attendance were invited to join the family for a time of fellowship, remembrance, and of course popcorn at Captain’s Hall. Many stories of Wayne were shared. There were tears, but there was also laughter. It was clear to see the impact that Wayne had made on the lives of those who were present. Donations in Wayne’s name may be made to The City of Weyburn (for Community Clubs and Organizations.

And a personal thank you to Rhiannon Benjamin, of Fletcher Funeral Chapel, “for your guidance and personal professionalism”.
