William Doughty died peacefully in his sleep at the Deep South Personal Care Home, Pangman, SK on Wednesday May 18, 2011. He was born on November 19, 1913 at Moreland, SK to Alex and Amanda Doughty.
He lived his whole life growing up and farming near Moreland. He attended Red Rose School. In 1938 he married Dorothy Wells and they moved onto the farm at Moreland where her parents had originally lived. Dorothy and William farmed there for 38 years. In 1946 they had their only daughter Marilyn. In 1977 they moved to Pangman where they spent their retirement years.
In William`s early life he dreamed of raising crops and cattle. He followed his dream to farm and did the work it took to make it successful. He planted many fruit trees to grow fresh produce in his own back yard. In retirement he spent time gardening (especially potatoes) and distributing the fruits of his labor to the people in town. He also enjoyed playing bridge and fishing. He was the local carrier who brought mail to those shut in their homes and delivering items as they needed.
He spent his last 4 years in the Deep South Personal Care Home where he became family to the residents and staff sharing his witty humor with them.
Many of his happiest times were spent with family. A loving and devoted, husband, father and friend of many, he will always be with us in our hearts, with many fond memories of his generosity, kindness, sense of humor/laughter and beautiful smile that will never be forgotten.
He was predeceased by: his parents, his wife Dorothy, four brothers and four sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn and numerous nieces and nephews. We extend a special thank you to the staff of the Deep South Personal Care Home and Dr. Oberholzer.
The funeral was held at Pangman United Church on Monday May 23, 2011at 1:00 pm with the Reverend Sylvia Fitzgerald. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations may be made to Deep South Personal Care Home, Pangman, SK.
Arrangements under the direction of Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, SK.
