Anissa (AJ) Marie Jankoviak, 33 of Golden, Colorado, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, November 16, 2019. She was born at Rose Hospital in Denver, Colorado and grew up in the Lakewood and Golden area where she played baseball, soccer, basketball through grade school until her freshman year. She spent four years on the Varsity Girls Basketball Team receiving Jefferson County Athletic Department “All Conference Award” her freshman year for basketball. In 2002 she underwent treatment for bone cancer. She survived through all those treatments and surgeries and enjoyed her life.
Following her high school graduation, she worked with her mother Vikki Jankoviak and business partners Ken and Neal Reinig in the health club insurance industry. She was trained as a specialized insurance underwriter for their programs until 2015 when she became disabled and couldn’t work.
In May of 2015 she was stricken with an intractable migraine. During this time she endured an 8-9 pain level every day and spent the last four and a half years of her life seeking treatment, which was never achieved. AJ and her family never gave up looking for a cure. She endured whatever tests and treatments the doctors threw at her, with a positive attitude and smile not to mention the occasional hidden hand gesture.
She was an avid dog lover who supported the Michigan Wolverines, University of North Carolina Tarheel’s, Chicago Bulls and the Denver Broncos. She enjoyed traveling with her parents when she could go to beaches and resorts around the world. AJ was such a generous, loving person evidenced in her outgoing personality which touched so many people’s lives. She cherished being an aunt to her many friends’ kids along with her immediate family. She is survived by her parents, Paul and Victoria Jankoviak, her brother Dan Jankoviak and many loving family members.
As a tribute to her life of sports and her enjoyment of sports, we encourage her guests to wear casual attire and/or colors and clothing from their favorite sports team. You never saw AJ without a hat and sunglasses and wearing her favorite team clothing.
