“I am 86 years old. I’ve lived a good life. I am ready.” These are the words Albert would say in the months leading up to his passing. He was tired, and on June 16, 2025, God was ready for him.
Albert was born in Morobitz, Yugoslavia on October 3, 1938, to Johann and Magdalena Stampfl, and immigrated to the United States of American with his family in 1952. He was the youngest of four boys: Joseph, John, and Franz. As the youngest, he had a sense of adventure and was always willing to try new things.
In 1961, another uncle, (Uncle Sam), as Albert said, “voluntold” him to join the Army. He attended basic training at Fort Carson, Colorado and was later stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. Albert was a radio operator and was on alert deployment status during the Cuban missile crisis, which luckily was resolved before his deployment occurred. His fondest army stories were about befriending his commanding officer, which afforded him many perks and adventures most enlisted personnel did not receive. He was happy to have served his country but was ready to return to Colorado in 1963, when he was honorably discharged.
He was a dapper dresser and was employed by May D & F and later Foley’s department stores as the retail sales manager of the menswear department. If you needed a suit, Albert was your man. He enjoyed his career and made many friends along the way.
Albert loved food, especially Chinese, Italian, Mexican, good bar-b-que, crab legs, sweets, and pretty much all other food, which is why he loved the buffets in Blackhawk. His niece and nephew, Linda and Bill joked at the amount of food he could eat, accusing him of having a hollow leg. Fond of slot machines, yes, but the fondness was clearly for the food. The threesome enjoyed many trips to “the hills” together.
Las Vegas, the southern United States, Graceland, Disney and California were his favorite places to explore and visit, along with anywhere else the road lead. He also loved the mountains for their beauty and peace, and camping, fishing, and skiing adventures. They reminded him of the land in his home country.
His happy place and greatest passion were his garden, yard, and flowers. Every Spring, as the earth awakened from winter, so would Albert. He would plant his garden with different varieties of vegetables and meticulously tended to them. He had a green thumb on each hand and was glad to share his bountiful crops with neighbors, friends, and family. He loved to be outside.
Albert was easygoing and made friends wherever he went. Although he was married and divorced twice, he had no children of his own. He was very close to his Goddaughter/niece Linda and her husband/nephew Bill Archibeque. They enjoyed the time they spent together, the adventures shared with him, and in Albert’s later years, being his caretakers. “Uncle” will be greatly missed by Linda and Bill.
Albert is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joseph (Eva) Stampfl, and John (Rosie) Stampfl, and his sister-in-law Irma Stampfl. He is survived by his brother Franz Stampfl, his niece Linda and her husband Bill Archibeque, his nephew David and his wife Maylene Stampfl, along with other nieces and nephews.
A Liturgy of the Word Service for Albert will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Serenity Pointe Chapel at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cem, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033, followed by a reception from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM.
