He passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 19, 2015.
Al attended Asbury Elementary and Grant Junior High and graduated early from Denver’s South High School in order to enlist in the Army. Al worked at Gates Rubber Company where he met his wife Shirley and spent the bulk of his working career at the Kohler-Maclister Paint Company (Komac), retiring as Executive Vice-President of Sales and Marketing after Komac was sold.
Al was happiest outdoors, either fishing Colorado’s high mountain lakes and streams with his father-in-law Clarence, relaxing on a boat with a cooler of beer or any activity involving horses including herding cattle. Al also loved to ski. He told stories about how he and his buddies rigged up a rope tow on Berthoud pass using a car wheel with no tire and a ’31 Ford. In the late 1950’s he always fretted spending $8 to $10.00 for gas, lunch and a lift ticket. Those were the days.
Al will be sorely missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Survived by his daughter Deborah (husband Oscar) her son Terry (wife Kristin) and great-grandsons Hayden and Calvin and Deborah’s daughter Tracy; and son David (wife Catherine) his son David Jordan (wife Leigh) and great-granddaughter Molly, and daughter Erin and great-grandchildren Olivia and Zephyr.
Also survived by his two brothers, Phil and Frank Brainard, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Alva was preceded in death by his loving wife Shirley, the love of his life. He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Ann.
Private services will be held.
