Andrew (Andy) Telfer passed peacefully at home with his family by his side on February 19, 2019 at the age of 93. While our hearts are broken, we know that he is resting peacefully in heaven. This is not good bye but a chapter to be continued.
Andy was born in Hamilton Scotland, a town in South Lanarkshire, in the central Lowlands of Scotland.
He grew up there as a young boy, had a passion for music and at the age of 15 learned to play the drums. He quickly found himself playing with a local band sometimes traveling up to 100 miles to perform at a dance. At the age of 16 he started to work as a pattern maker and moved through a 7-year apprenticeship program, studying day and night while still playing dances whenever he could.
In 1951 at the age of 25 he immigrated to the US to begin working as a pattern maker in Chicago Il. He continued his passion for music and working hard towards the American dream. In 1957 he met Kathleen Mannion while playing at an Irish benefit dance. This was truly love at 1st sight and the romance started.
They married in 1959, the start of 60 years of an unbelievable romance and lifelong friendship. This journey began in Chicago, IL where Andy & Kathleen started their family with three beautiful children Brian, Kevin & Linda. Andy continued as a drummer throughout his life while working with the Catholic school/church. For 17 years they embraced the community, made lifelong friendships and memories that carried throughout their lives.
In 1977 Andy & the family moved to Colorado and started another chapter of their lives. This chapter included the addition of four grandchildren, Meagan, Michael, Ashley & Nicole, and ultimately five great grandchildren, Taivon, Trennan, Peyton, Lucas and Scarlett. Andy & Kathleen retired in 1995, spent their retirement years together traveling and sharing time with their children and family in Ireland, Scotland, Dallas, Florida, Colorado, and Las Vegas.
Andy touched the lives of many people along his path and everyone appreciated his amazing sense of humor and kindness. He lived his life with a high level of integrity, compassion for others and was respected by everyone he encountered. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and you were always welcomed in his home. His jokes were plentiful, and no one left his house without a good laugh and a smile on their face.
Please join us in a celebration of Andy’s life that will be held on March 2nd, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Hudson Gardens located at 6115 S. Santa Fe Drive, Littleton, CO 80120.
Andy and Cathy appreciated their son Kevin’s passion to serve as a volunteer firefighter for the West Douglas County Fire Department. Kevin has volunteered for the department for the last 8 years and Andy and Cathy enjoyed participating in all the fund-raising events. In Lieu of flowers please donate to the local volunteer fire department to support their on-going effort to build a new station. You can donate from the web site below;
