Barbara A. Silliman was born on June 21, 1944, in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado. She was the second oldest of six daughters and carried a caring, strong, and spirited role within her family throughout her life.
Barbara was known for her intelligence, quick wit, strong opinions, unwavering love for her family, and dedication to her Catholic faith. She had a sharp memory and was a total wiz with numbers — which made her one fierce accountant. She was also incredibly talented and creative, a wonderful seamstress who loved knitting and spending time with her sister Mary Jane and her group of knitting friends. Despite her strong presence, she always had a way of making people feel welcomed, included, and cared for.
Above all, Barbara loved her family. She shared a loving partnership and nearly 61 years of marriage with her husband, Chuck, and they would have celebrated their 61st anniversary this August. Their relationship was built on loyalty, humor, devotion, and unwavering support for one another throughout life’s many seasons.
During the last few years of her life, as both she and Chuck faced ongoing health challenges and countless stays in hospitals, rehab centers, skilled nursing facilities, and assisted living, family remained Barbara’s greatest comfort. Nurses and healthcare providers often commented on how much she lit up whenever loved ones came to visit. Throughout those years, Ken devoted countless hours helping coordinate care, communication, and the many day-to-day needs that came with supporting both Barbara and Chuck, while the family continued to support them in many other ways along the journey.
Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Chuck; daughter Denise VanAusdall; son Kenneth; sisters Mary Jane and Karolyn; and grandchildren Marcus, Allison Scoles, and Logan. She also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Marilyn, Gerri, and Debbie; her parents; and her beloved dog, Skipper.
Barbara will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
