Born August 20, 1935, in Walsenburg, Colorado to Miguel and Beneranda Bernardo. He was married to Genevieve Francis Atencio, of Denver, Colorado. His children survive Bernie: Cliff Medina, Bernadine and Henry Mares, Lisa, “Jody” Medina, and Gina Gazotti, all of Denver, Colorado. Bernie leaves behind 2 sisters, 12 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. Bernie also leaves behind wonderful friends that he loved dearly, Steve, Christopher and family, Susan, Kip and Rhonda, and others.
Bernie is home with his parents, mother of his children, brother, and children: Brenda Lee Medina, Tommy Medina, Regina Medina, and Jeannie Lane who all sit with him this glorious day at the throne of our Father God.
Bernie was strong-willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all his life experiences. Since Bernie retired, he enjoyed garden and yard aesthetics, sharing wisdom with anyone who needed guidance, and he could fix anything, (with a little tape, glue, or zip ties)
Professional history: Practiced in the field of Mental Health and Counseling for 30 years with the State of Colorado.
Bernie carried himself with dignity, strength, and love for those who went before him and those he left behind. He will be missed dearly.
