Beth Ann Halacy was born to John and Jessie De Bolt at home in Clarkdale, AZ, September 24, 1925. She died peacefully March 13, 2015, at the home of daughter, Deirdre Byerly, in Littleton, Colorado, surrounded by loving family including her two daughters, their husbands and her only sister.
Growing up, Beth lived in several small towns scattered across Arizona. Upon graduating from high school, she attended business school and later Arizona State University at Tempe. While there, she met Dan Halacy, who was a first lieutenant in the US Air Force.
Beth and Dan were married June 2, 1946, at her parents’ home in Glendale, Arizona and began married life in San Diego. They later moved back to Glendale in the 1950s. They finally settled in Lakewood, Colorado in 1979 when the Solar Energy Research Institute (now the National Renewable Energy Lab) in Golden, CO, wooed her husband for his expertise in solar energy. Beth shared in that expertise, collaborating with her husband in designing and marketing solar ovens. They wrote a book, “Cooking with the Sun,” which took her across the country for cooking demonstrations, including on the Dinah Shore Show and Good Morning America.
A devoted wife and mother, Beth sustained her own interests in music throughout her life. She was a soloist in churches, musical theater and the Phoenix Civic Light Opera, where she played the lead in “Carmen,” “Hansel and Gretel” and supporting roles in “Carousel” and “Amahl and the Night Vistiors.” In addition, she taught singing for more than twenty years.
In 1963, Beth began attending a Bible study which led her to faith in Jesus Christ. This transforming experience was the template for a rich life of prayer and sharing Jesus with friends and family. Truly, this is her legacy to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends.
Her husband preceded her in death on March 20, 2002.
She is survived by children, Jessica and Paul Fernandez, Deirdre and Bob Byerly; five grandchildren, Paul Christopher Fernandez and wife Tracey, Zack Fernandez and wife Amber, Joel Byerly and wife Keeley, Drew Byerly and Tara Byerly; and great granddaughters Seri, Faith, Hannah and Persephone; and her sister, Jacqueline Knowles.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 11 a.m., at Grace Covenant Church 10101 W. Mississippi Avenue Lakewood, Colorado 80228.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Beth’s name to Grace Covenant Church.
