Betty Eddy, nee Rosalind Betty Lukes, was born 10-12-1917 in East Cleveland, Ohio to A. Frank and Rose Hejduk Lukes who both immigrated with their families as young children to the US from Bohemia. Betty graduated from Shaw High School in 1935. While working for Lincoln Electric as a bookkeeper, she met Maurice H Eddy from Vermilion, Ohio. They were married on December 28, 1940 and moved to Denver where Maurice worked for Johnson Supply Co for many years as an electrical engineer.
Betty and Maurice were founding members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lakewood, Colorado and were active in the church in various roles for many decades. Betty was the oldest member of the present church.
Betty enjoyed ice skating and bowling and was active in sports in high school. She loved to knit and took it up again at age 90 to keep her fingers flexible. During this time, she made numerous knit caps for both family, including her new great grandchildren, and for the church outreach. She finally had to give it up due to her reduced vision.
Betty’s hoska and kolachi (Czech sweet breads) were special treats for the holidays and are being carried on by the next two generations.
She was a Worthy Advisor of the Order of Rainbow Girls in East Cleveland and a long standing member of the Order of Eastern Star and P.E.O.
Her family and friends were her top priority in life. She is survived by her children, Ron (Vicki) Eddy of Golden, Kris (Craig) Axtell of Estes Park and Pam Holtz of Littleton; grandchildren Liesl Holtz (Derrick Mahoney), Paul Holtz (Melanie), Corey Axtell, Erin Axtell, Drew (Lisa) Eddy and Kelli Eddy; and great grandchildren, Charlie Rose Mahoney, Hawken Mahoney and Lucas Eddy. Several nieces and nephews also survive her. Her friends were many and of all generations.
Service will be August 12, 2016 at 11 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lakewood.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Paul’s Church, Uplift Internationale (medical mission to Philippines) or charity of your choice.
