She graduated from South High School in Denver, Colorado. Formally trained as a florist, Beverly grew her Designed Flowers by Bev business into an entrepreneurial project that included interior plantscaping for companies across the Denver Metro area and exterior landscaper for model homes. She was the owner and creative force at The Gift Den shop and later a second location called the Gift Den Greenhouse in Elizabeth, Colorado.
Beverly was an incredibly spiritual person with an extensive library of books that reflected a life-long curiosity about all that was beyond this human experience. She loved to learn about the many ways humans engaged with faith and practiced love. She remained open, respectful, and positive about her relationship with Spirit until the end.
Bev’s personal achievements reflect the many talents she possessed. From being active in the Colorado political scene in the 1960s and 70s to being one of three citizens who researched, advocated, and fought to preserve, educate and memorialize the Smoky Hill Westward Expansion Trail. But her personal focus was ensuring the Starvation Trail off shoot was deemed a historical landmark and memorialized geographies for the State of Colorado.
When her daughters were young, Beverly sewed, drove and supported the Scottish Highland Dancers of Colorado and was a leader and volunteer in the Elbert County 4-H for many years.
In later years she contributed to, and volunteered with, both the Elbert County Historical Society and Cherry Creek Valley Historical Society. Bev remained an active member of the Draft Horse Society as her love for all horses was weaved into her identity. Hobbies were more like passions for Beverly. She knitted helmet skull warmers for troops in Afghanistan and Iraq with her circle of friends. She designed and loved to create items for sell at regional fiber and holiday craft shows. Bev was truly a Rocky Mountain girl. When not on her beloved ranch in Eastern Colorado, she adored exploring New Mexico, soaking in the Thermopolis, Wyoming hot springs with her sister, or heading up to Montana to stay with her eldest daughter and grandchildren.
Bev was a talented energy worker and alternative healing advocate. As part of community of those who uniquely pushed traditional medical boundaries and thought outside of the box, she rarely turned away from humans or animals in need. Whether resourcing homeopathic remedies, educating and accessing nutritional supplements, or her ingenious networking skills, all proved vital to so many friends, family and furry companions. What made her unique was how all types of furry or fowl, two and four-legged creatures found Bev when they were in need and she would help them.
Beverly impacted the people around her with her larger than life personality and genuine desire to help. She was a networker and giver, she would keep her business open hours after “closing time” to ensure someone could pick up a gift or just talk when they needed a compassionate ear. She was a creative force willing synthesize happenings around her and excited to share ideas to anyone who would listen. She had a warm and welcoming smile and would happily engage with anyone alone in a crowded room.
Beverly is survived by her husband Rick Blotter of Agate, CO, her eldest daughter and husband Christeen and Donn Ehlers of Kalispell, MT as well as her youngest daughter Heather McAfee of Portland, OR. Beverly had five grandchildren: Logan, Lindsey, Lexi, Leah and Lacey, two great grandchildren: Aiden and Myah all in Montana. Bev loved her nephew Travis, wife Jessica, and her grand-niece "Cammy" in New Jersey as well as a rich and loving community of cousins and friends whom she remained close to all her life.
