Carolyn L. (White) Altman was born March 10, 1946 in Denver, Colorado. She was a middle child and the only one of the three White sisters to be born in a hospital. She attended Fairmont Elementary School, Golden Junior High School and Golden Senior High School. Arvada West High School opened up in time for her senior year and she was given a choice to attend either Golden or Arvada West. She made her choice and history as the very first prom queen and part of the first graduating class of Arvada West High School in 1964. After high school Carolyn attended Hollywood Beauty College where she graduated May 14, 1965.
Carolyn met Galen Altman in the middle of her junior year of high school through a mutual friend while hanging out with friends at The Scotchman. Galen was a junior at Wheat Ridge High School. They were married March 12, 1965. Their son, Trevor was born November 1966 and later Jill in October 1968.
Carolyn worked as a beautician and housewife most of her early life. Around 1986 she began working at The Growing Company, a flower shop in Wheat Ridge and later Stevens and Son Greenhouse.
Carolyn was always involved with her kids’ sporting events and extracurricular activities as a volunteer or one of the biggest fans. That passion continued as she had grandchildren. She put on thousands of miles traveling to watch her five grandkids play sports.
Carolyn loved painting, pastel chalks and puzzles. Many family members have her art hanging on their walls. It wasn’t uncommon to receive a frame with an “under construction” sign in it for Christmas!
Carolyn also loved children, Christmas and her family. She loved our country, our flag and our service men and women. She never passed a man or woman in uniform without shaking their hand and thanking them for their service. She was fiercely loyal, brutally honest, and as a fan of the underdog detested when anyone picked on someone smaller or weaker or different from the norm. If she was in your corner, you can bet she had your back.
Carolyn did not wear her heart on her sleeve, but you knew how she felt about you. She showed her love and kind-heartedness in so many other ways. She was strong, spunky and compassionate.
Carolyn was called home by our Lord on July 22, 2019 after a fight with cancer. She was 73 years old.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Howard “Whitey” and Hazel "Lollie" White. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Galen; her children Trevor (Darlene) Altman, Jill (Randy) Delay; grandchildren T-Lane (Alex) Mazzola, Belle (Gaven) Van Pelt, Madison Altman, John Altman, Troy Altman; and great-grandchildren Rhylan Mazzola, Emmie Lou Mazzola, and Olimpia Van Pelt; her sisters Joan (Harold) Ohlson, Laura (Bob) Johnson and so many other relatives and friends
