Charlie was born in Oak Creek, Colorado. He enjoyed football and basketball growing up and was known to be a bit mischievous in his early years. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at bases in Kentucky, Germany, and Kansas, where he formed life long friendships. Following his honorable discharge, he married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Long, and together they had four children.
Charlie attended the University of Northern Colorado on the G.I. Bill. After graduating, he worked for the Gates Rubber Company for 24 years in both the Labor Relations and Retirement departments. He also worked part-time at Safeway, a job he began while in college, and continued working there until the age of 80.
Charlie loved watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participate in numerous sports and activities. He was a lifelong Denver Broncos fan who waited ten years to obtain season tickets. He proudly secured four season tickets the same year the Broncos advanced to their first Super Bowl.
Charlie was a firm believer in education and worked tirelessly to ensure his children had opportunities he did not have growing up. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. His favorite trip was when his children took him to Costa Rica for his 75th birthday. The highlight of that trip was ziplining down Arenal Volcano for the first time. Charlie treasured his lifelong friendships, but above all, he cherished time spent with his family.
Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Carmen Munden Northrop; his father, Charles W. Munden Jr.; his brother, Bob Munden; his sister-in-law, Delores Munden; and his sister, Peggy Micaletti.
He is survived by his former wife, Marjorie; his children, Christine (Daniel) Corral, Charles W. (Connie) Munden IV, Michelle Munden, and Michael (Beth) Munden; seven grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister and three brothers, Edna (Harvey) Torr, Terry (Vickie) Munden, Tom (Carol) Munden, Brad (Lynn Kortz) Munden, and brother-in-law Joseph Micaletti along with many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Creek Cemetery in Oak Creek, Colorado, on February 21st, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow immediately afterward.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tracks and Trails Museum (https://tracksandtrailsmuseum.com) in his beloved hometown of Oak Creek, Colorado.
Charlie will be deeply missed and dearly loved. His presence, wisdom, storytelling ability, and sense of humor will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
