Charlotte J. Powell was born on August 4, 1935, in San Diego, California. She passed away peacefully in her beloved home in Lakewood, Colorado, on April 27, 2026, at the age of 90, Her daughter Lisa and granddaughter Tammy, who had lived with her for many years caring for her after the passing of her husband Thomas, were by her side.
On June 16, 1956, Charlotte married Thomas Powell. Together, they had three beautiful daughters: Linda, Lisa, and Laura. Charlotte was also blessed with seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
In her earlier career, Charlotte worked as a meat packer and worked the graveyard shift at Anchor Hocking Glass Company. She later began her career with Beltone Hearing Aids in Great Lakes, Illinois. In 1972, she moved to Colorado, where she continued her career with Beltone/Starkey Hearing Aids. Charlotte was an entrepreneur at heart. She owned two hearing aid clinics and bought and sold multiple real estate properties over the years.
Charlotte took pride in her involvement with Prime Timers, singing in the church choir, and teaching Sunday School. She served as president of the Lions Club and was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed shopping on QVC and selling Avon.
Charlotte was a strong-willed, hard-working woman. She always took pride in her appearance, was wonderfully blunt, and was never afraid to speak her mind. She loved horses, all things country western, and Native American art and culture. She was a collector of just about everything you could imagine, including art, figurines, dolls, bears, clothes, purses, shoes, and jewelry.
She loved her chihuahuas, and most importantly, she loved her family. Charlotte and Tom loved to travel. They shared many adventures together in their RV. Each grandchild, at some point, had the special opportunity to go on an epic road trip across the United States with their grandparents, always including a stop at Disneyland or Disney World.
A memorial service in Charlotte's memory will be held on May 8, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery, 7777 W. 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO 80033, in The Chapel in The Tower of Memory where she will be laid to rest with her husband. Immediately following the service, a reception will be held at 827 S. Deframe Way, Lakewood, CO 80228.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all who attended and to Reverend Richard Bruno for the memorial which will comfort and joyfully remember Charlotte - lovingly known as Mom, Grandma, and Char.
