Connie was a truly special person in the lives of those she touched. She had a brilliant mind and was a self-taught accountant and dog groomer in her adult life. Connie also had a huge capacity for strength and adventure- she was a bodybuilder for a number of years and a motorcyclist, self-sustaining throughout her life. Those who knew her were moved by her capacity for love and compassion toward animals and her fellow human beings.
Connie is survived by a sister of unknown identity, and by her predeceased partner Robert (Bob) Guard’s son Bobby, who now cares for her beloved Maltese-Shih Tzu mix Missy.
Connie lived her life with steadfast determination. She spent time in a number of locales during her childhood, including Las Vegas, where her father worked in entertainment. She moved to Colorado in later years and was a quick friend to many. Her sharp mind and organized lifestyle led to a smooth transition into accounting work for many years before transitioning to a career in dog grooming, where her deep love for animals flourished. She was known around town as the owner and operator of top-rated grooming shop Furpection, where her endless compassion and ability to connect with both animals and owners formed lasting bonds.
She acted as caregiver for her partner Bob during his journey with pancreatic cancer in 2018 and continued a successful business through her sustainment of a stroke in 2020. Where many would have taken this as a fatal blow, Connie persevered until 2023 when she was diagnosed with dementia. The liver disease that eventually proved fatal was a constant presence in her life in recent years, and Connie took it in stride leading up to and beyond her diagnosis. She was a beloved part of her community, and is remembered for her quick laugh, boundless adoration for animals, and keen intelligence.
An intimate memorial with close friends will be held at Olinger Mortuary, 7777 W 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 by invitation.
