unexpectedly Friday July 8, 2011. She was born at
Presbyterian-St. Lukes hospital in Denver, CO on March 16,
1984. She attended public school in Jefferson County and
graduated from Golden High School in 2002 lettering in
cheerleading and band.
Crystal had a wide range of life-long interests, and
artistic talents. She was curious about the human condition
and studied biology and sociology. She loved Shakespearean
plays, particularly, Hamlet. Her home reflected her
artistic flair with sparkling stars on the ceiling and vivid
paint setting the decorum for each room. She firmly
believed animals have rights, too, exhibiting at an early
age compassion for both wildlife and companion animals.
Her most exceptional talent was as a musician earning awards
consistently from the time she picked up her first
instrument. Crystal played clarinet, flute, oboe, and
piccolo. She had a beautiful singing voice. During the last
few months of her life, she was preparing herself by talking
voice lessons to audition for “American Idol”.
She was also a writer with conviction. One of her best
pieces investigated all the health code violations in her
high school. The article included a photo of a Petri dish
containing bacteria she had collected around the school.
A girl to try everything, Crystal enjoyed snowboarding,
horseback riding and for the past few years, racing her
Subaru Impreza at Bandamere Speedway. She sang the National
Anthem before one racing session.
On May 31, 2005, Crystal married her high school sweetheart,
Joseph Fitzgerald, in Lafayette, CO. They were blessed with
a baby boy, Calvin, on July 6, 2007. Crystal was an
exceptionally loving mother and always referred to her son
as her precious little angel. She believed strongly that he
was a person from the moment he was born.
Crystal, herself, was a vibrant, beautiful person. Family
and friends in her life will always remember her as a
wonderful mother, captivatingly beautiful woman with a kind,
generous heart. She had a dry sense of humor with an
infectious laugh. She loved joking and laughing with her
family and friends. Because she was an only child, she
endured and enjoyed a lot of taunting and teasing from her
parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and older cousin. Her
brilliant smile brightened many lives. Aim for a Star,
darling.
A special mention of gratitude to Crystal’s life-long
friend Heather May Bierhaus and her family for all of the
love and kindness they shared with her. First as girls,
later as beautiful young women, Heather and Crystal were as
close as sisters should be.
Crystal is survived by her son Calvin and his father Joseph
Fitzgerald; her mother Martha Martin; grandparents Sally
McLean, Jim and Kim Martin; several aunts, uncles, and
cousins.
At her request, no services were held. After cremation, her ashes will be placed at Crown Hill Cemetery in the Tower of Memories. Condolences may be offered at www.CrownHillFuneral.com
