Dan was born and raised in Trinidad, Colorado. His parents were Valentine and Genevieve Fernandez. Dan had one sister, Marian and five brothers, Victor, twin brother Dennis, John (deceased), Martin and Gerard.
Dan graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1959 and from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1970. He worked at Public Service Company of Colorado, Shell Chemical Company, Storage Technology Corporation and Reis Environmental. He retired in 2006.
Dan met and married his wife, Carol, in Denver and was married 49 years. They moved to Boulder in 1967 and subsequently to Arvada in 1972. It was in Arvada where they raised their three children Lee Ann (Brabec), Shelley (Litsey), and Kristen (Hastings). Dan was blessed to have three sons-in-law Joel Brabec, Anthony Litsey, and Bryan Hastings. He loved his three grandsons, Mark and Drew Brabec, and Ryder Hastings. Dan’s granddaughter, Jada Brabec passed away before birth in 2006.
Dan enjoyed the game of golf and was a well-known competitor at many golf courses in the Denver metro area. Most recently, he was a member of the Lake Arbor Golf Course Men’s Club in Arvada. He often traveled on golf vacations with his wife and friends. Additionally, Dan was an avid football fan, especially the Denver Broncos. Football was a sport he loved to share with his sons-in-law, grandsons and friends.
After being diagnosed with cancer in October of 2012, Dan fought hard to conquer that disease. He never gave up in his quest to be cured, but eventually his failing health resulted in hospice care where he followed the path God laid for him and set him free.
