Dan was Fighting Irish through and through, having received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1961 from Notre Dame and devotedly watching darn near every game since.
Dan was an ardent Democrat and heavily involved in the community and his late wife, Gwynith Green’s two Colorado House of Representatives campaigns. In 2001, Dan received recognition for his dedication and volunteerism to Dinosaur Ridge in Morrison, Colo. He also spent over 20 years volunteering for Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic (now Learning Ally) in Denver, a couple years as the treasurer of the Jefferson Humanists, and was a passionate supporter of various wildlife organizations and countless Denver museums.
Dan was curious and had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and loved science, history, and the arts. He was never without a newspaper, a book, or a witty, random fact and would regale his family with stories cleverly made up on the spot. He loved fishing with his sons, playing volleyball and pickleball, enjoying milkshakes with his kids and grandkids, and tending to his garden.
Dan worked as an Electrical Engineer for over 30 years at the Bureau of Reclamation. He also served his country as a weather officer in the U.S. Air Force, ending his military career as Lieutenant Colonel. He was well-traveled, having visited Brazil, China, and Pakistan as a consulting electrical engineer, and multiple countries in Europe with Gwyn.
Dan was born in Wolf Point, Mont., grew up on a farm, and spent much of his childhood in Florida before meeting Gwyn in college. A devoted husband since 1961 and loving father and grandfather, he is survived by his four loving children, Laura, Kevin (Barb), Mark (Mary Ann), and Benjamin (Julie), 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A Celebration of Life for Dan will be held from 2-4 p.m. Friday, March 10. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) nonprofit organization of your choice.
