Darrell Olson (83) of Centennial, Colorado, passed away on August 24, 2020.

Darrell was a loving husband, committed father and loyal friend. His sense of humor was legendary and included lots of jokes, winks and smiles. He was a gentle soul and always generous.

Darrell was born in Sisseton SD to Russell and Doris Olson on October 1, 1936 and raised by his Aunt Pearl and Pete Peterson. He married Glenda Rypkema on January 17, 1959 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and they had four children: Desiree (Arnie) Schans, Denise (Keith) Tiggelaar, Darrell (Laurel) Olson II, and Lance (Julie) Olson. Throughout their married life, Darrell and Glenda lived in various locations in South Dakota, Minnesota, and finally settling in Denver, Colorado. He worked in the insurance industry for many years, culminating in the ownership of his own agency when he retired in 2005. He served in the National Guard. He was involved in the Christian Reformed Church, Cub Scout Leadership, Boy Scout Leadership, Colorado Uplift, Association of General Contractors, Colorado Contractors Association, Pinehurst Country Club, and was the recipient of the 2002 Earthen Vessel Award from the Christian Living Communities.

Darrell is preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Pete Peterson, twin sister, Darla (Frank) Becker and half-brother Carmen Steen .

Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Glenda Olson, his children, 9 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, sister Dorothy (Fritz) Fiala, half-brothers Kervin (Karen) Steen, Harlen (Deena) Steen and Lori Ann Davey and family.

In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to Denver Christian School, First Christian Reformed Church or Holly Creek Employee Appreciation Fund.

The family of Darrell wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Holly Creek Meadows Memory Center, Suncrest Home Health & Hospice Services, and Pastor Joel Schreurs of First Christian Reformed Church.

Due to the ongoing Covid Pandemic, no formal services will be held.
