Survived by wife of 51 years Linda C. Arko, son Mark David Arko, son-in-law Scott Michael O'Bryan, grandchildren Marisa Ann Arko, Zoe Mackenzie O'Bryan and Robert Michael O'Bryan, mother Dorothy Roberta Arko, brother Edward "Ed" Clifton Arko, nephew Daniel "Dan" Edward Arko, niece Christine Storey Flood and many friends and associates. He was preceded in death by his father Louis Edward Arko and recently by his daughter Carol Dena O'Bryan in November.
Dave Graduated from CU Boulder in 1962 with his Bachelor's Degree in Music. He married Linda in August of 1962, and went on to earn his Master's Degree at Western State in 1966. He taught music in Fairplay, CO in the spring of 1963, vocal & instrumental music in Gunnison & Crested Butte in all grades until 1967, & instrumental music & strings in elementary schools in Lakewood in Jefferson county starting in 1967. When they contemplated cutting elementary music in the 1980's, he taught choir, instrumental music, & strings plus computers at Lakewood Junior for 5 years before he went back to the elementary schools (his favorite) in the Arvada area. He retired in 1993 & has continued to perform in a Dixieland Band briefly, Golden Tones, Jeffco Community Band, Jeffco Brass, & substituted in other groups like Sentimental Sounds.
Dave will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 12th, 9:00am at Olinger Crown Hill - Chapel of Peace, 7777 W. 29th Avenue, Wheat Ridge. A brass band will begin to play at 8:30am, and will also play following the service.
In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family requests donations be made to his 3 Grandchildren's college fund. An update as to how you may do this is to follow later.
