Born on July 29, 1951, David grew up in Denver, Colorado, and attended North High School. Known for his sharp wit and kind heart, David had a gift for making everyone feel welcomed and at ease.
David was the son of Donald and Joycelyn, who preceded him in passing in 2014. He was one of six siblings, sharing his life and many crazy (and hilarious) memories with his brothers and sister: Bonnie, Steven, Paul, Larry, and Robert. His family was a cornerstone of his life, and he cherished the bond he shared with them.
David proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1972. During his service, he was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway, a role he carried with great pride throughout his life. This chapter of his life was one of honor and pride, and he often reflected fondly on his time in the Navy.
David was first married to Judy, with whom he shared two children,Alyssa and Eric. He was a devoted father who took great pride in his children and the families they built. Later in life, David married Becky, with whom he loved deeply and shared a lifelong connection to adventure and the outdoors. Becky became a caring stepmother to Alyssa and Eric in their adulthood, and through their marriage, David welcomed Becky's daughter, Leslie, into his heart as one of his own.
He was a proud grandfather to Nolan through Alyssa, Jack and Logan through Eric, and Natalie and Tristan through Leslie. Whether spending time outdoors, sharing stories, or watching them grow, his grandchildren could always count on Grandpa Dave to make them laugh.
David was a very skilled craftsman and took great pride in his work. He learned his craft which was painting in the military during the Vietnam War. Amongst his other military duties he would paint Phantom 4 jets on the USS Midway. After the military he worked for Combs Gates painting aircrafts, including John Denver's plane, automotive painting and then for Rockwell International (known as Rocky Flats) as a sign painter and miscellaneous painting jobs. Before his retirement he helped in the deconstruction of Rocky Flats. David was always willing to give a helping hand when needed.
An avid outdoorsman, David found peace and fulfillment in nature alongside Becky. He loved hunting, hiking, biking, fishing, and taking in the fantastic panoramas and waterways in their rafts and touring kayaks. They toured places such as the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, the Green and Yampa rivers,Antelope Canyon in AZ and a multitude of other wildscapes throughout the US. During these trips they made lasting relationships with other adventurers. It seemed they drew other common enthusiasts of exploration to them. All of their new found friends, being of rather musical backgrounds, would perform mini concerts in these canyons and waterways while on their wilderness experiences; grand memories made for living in this life. A lifelong admirer of cowboys and westerns, he could often be found enjoying classic films and tales of the Wild West.
David is survived by his loving wife Becky Fowler, two adult children, Alyssa Krolicki (Neil), Eric Fowler (Emily), Becky's daughter Leslie Eberhart and 5 grandchildren, Jack, Logan, Nolan, Natalie and Tristan. David's siblings are Bonnie Sandberg (Norman), Steven (Heidi), Paul (Brenda), Larry (Mindy), and Robert Fowler all who still reside in Colorado, plus a plethora of nieces and nephews living throughout the country.
David's legacy is one of humor, kindness, a love of pranks, and a zest for life. His family and friends will remember his lighthearted spirit, his unwavering love for those close to him, and the laughter he brought to every gathering. David's love, humor, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of joy and kindness will be cherished for generations to come.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in David's honor to support Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) research, a cause close to their hearts. https://www.psp.org/ways-to-give
A celebration of David's life will be held in the spring, where loved ones will gather to share stories, memories, and laughter in honor of a remarkable man. Details will be announced at a later date.
