

David Allen Skougstad was born February 1st, 1944 in Beloit, Wisconsin to Marvin and Priscilla Skougstad. Shortly after, they moved to Madison so his father could finish his PhD. The family then moved to Golden, Colorado in 1958. David graduated Golden High School in 1962, Occidental College in 1966, was in the Peace Corps in Kenya from 1966-1969, and in the Marines stationed in Washington D.C. from 1971-1973. He returned and earned his MBA from CSU in 1973. He married Becky Manning in 1974; before they divorced in 1997 they had two sons. He worked for Stone Grey and Co., CPAs in 1975; earned his CPA; then taught Accounting at Metropolitan State College of Denver from 1976 until his retirement. He loved teaching, and also the outdoors. He was an avid hiker/backpacker, and cyclist. He was a charter member of the Courage Classic bicycle race, and backpacked the John Muir Trail mostly solo, about 210 miles.
He is survived by his ex-wife Becky Skougstad of Lakewood; brother Norman Skougstad of Washington State; and sons Eric and Lars of Lakewood. He is also survived by too many students to list, most of which he remembered by both their first and last names.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, 920 Kipling Street in Lakewood, Colorado. 303-233-2740.
