December 28, 1939 – August 8, 2026
In the early morning of August 8th, 2026, Jeff, Susie, Steve, and Kathy bid a tearful and loving goodbye to their mom Debbie Progar. She passed away at the age of 86, in the comfort of hospice care in Lakewood, Colorado. After a long battle with Alzheimer's, of which she fought with dignity and grace, Debbie has gone home and Heaven has gained another angel.
Deborah Dale Jenkins was born on December 28, 1939, in Bloomington, Illinois, to Dr. David and Virginia Jenkins. After a childhood filled with days at the pool and on the tennis court, she left home to attend college in Colorado, where she would meet, and eventually marry Frank Progar. In five quick years and four children later, Debbie had built a family and made the Centennial State her home.
Equipped with a Ford Country Squire station wagon, she navigated thousands of sporting events, doctors' appointments, and school activities with ease. She was not only our mom, but a mother to many growing up in the Applewood area. An extraordinary daughter, sister, wife, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she loved as big as her heart. She maintained decades-long friendships with people near and dear to her heart and made countless other friends along the way. Simply put, if you knew her, you loved her.
Debbie had a kind heart, a quick wit, a love for people, and a million-dollar smile. She loved swimming, tennis, and golf, but most of all, she loved her family and friends. Her memory would be incomplete if we did not mention her love of cleaning. Man did that lady like to clean.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her older brother, Dave Jenkins as well as her former husband, Frank Progar. Debbie is survived by her brother, Dr. Chuck Jenkins (Carol); her son, Jeff (Nancy); her daughter, Susie Stewart (Todd); her son, Steve (Stephanie); and her daughter, Kathy Lange (Chip). She is also survived as Nana in the hearts of her eleven grandchildren and two great-grandsons: Lindsay, Annie, Abigail, Ryan, Megan, Amanda, Charlie, Tyler, Will, Jeffrey, Brady, Henry, and Luke.
If Debbie has touched your life and you would like to help celebrate and honor her, please join the family on August 31st at 10:00 a.m. at Crown Hill Cemetery Chapel for a celebration of life, followed by a family and friends reception immediately after the service at Abrusci's Fire & Vine. As a tribute to Debbie, we are requesting sharp golf/casual attire with an emphasis on pastels.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Debbie's memory to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org/donate.
