It is with great sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Dona Thompson, born December 24, 1932, she passed peacefully at home on April 10, 2018. Loving wife of Paul “Edd” Thompson, mother to Jeffrey, Daniel, and Patricia. Grandmother to five, and great grandmother of 12. Sister to David, and pre-deceased by her sisters, Pat, and Carol, brother Jack, mother Hazel, and father Merle. Dona was born in West Liberty Borough, Pennsylvania, graduated at Slippery Rock High School where she was co-editor of her school paper, and loved to dance and swim. She married Paul “Edd” Thompson on November 21, 1950 and moved to Colorado in 1962.
Dona was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, the matriarch of the family. She gave selflessly of her time to not just her family, but the community. She commemorated notable dates such as birthdates and anniversaries, and always would call or send a card. She gave to her time and donated generously each year to Easter Seals, The March of Dimes, The Arvada food bank, and other charities.
She possessed an amazing variety of information, experience, wisdom, and cared with an open heart. She had a sharp wit and would show that when she watched Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune each night. Dona had wonderful sense of humor, and would always have a joke to tell, with some of the jokes being just dreadful – but she knew that and would tell them anyway!
An artist at heart, Dona used her shop, kitchen, and gardens as her canvas. Dona was an accomplished seamstress who owner her own business in her home and created custom made drapes. She designed and grew beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and tended them with love. Dona was a fabulous chef and pie make extraordinaire! She loved the sound of thunder, the smell of rain and her flowers, and loved to watch the sun rise each morning. A lover of animals, she owned many dogs and cats throughout her life, and loved to go fishing to catch that elusive trout. Reading was by far her favorite hobby, reading almost anything she could get her hands on. From Western novels to Sci-fi to Fantasy and many other genres. Books took her to places where she met heroes, and villains, saw far distant galaxies, and beautiful prairies in her mind. She absorbed books as a sponge soaked up water and shared that love of reading with her family. She always appreciated the creative views and writings of another person’s heart and soul.
Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Dona knew that she was kind, and generous of spirit. A woman who lived life, loved life, and cared about her husband and family more than anything else.
The Thompson family will have a private celebration of her life.
