Donald Lee McCall, 87, of Louisville, Colorado, went to be with his Lord and Savior peacefully on September 27, 2019. He was born April 11, 1932, in Denver, Colorado to Leeman Gibbs and Gladys Glendene McCall.
Don grew up in Lakewood, Colorado and graduated from Lakewood High School in 1950. He went on to attend Colorado School of Mines where he graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering on May 28, 1954. During his time at Mines he met his long life love, Janet LaRee Halker and they were married a few hours after his graduation.
His first few years of married life were spent serving out his commitment in the US Army, where he was stationed at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia and then finished his career as a 1st Lieutenant stationed at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where his first two children of four were born.
Don’s first employment and for many years to follow was with Mobil Oil Corporation where he spent time roustabouting in the oil fields of West Texas and Oklahoma, having his third and fourth children. Eventually he was in the office overseeing both operation and reservoir engineering staff working his way up into corporate finance being transferred to Mobil’s NYC corporate Treasurer’s Office as a Junior Analyst in 1969 rubbing elbows with many Harvard and Princeton MBA’s. His determination and a “bull dog” nature taught himself enough to compete and in 1971 was given the big boost in his career with a move to international finance in Mobil’s Treasury Department in London, England. Throughout his hard-earned career, Don eventually landed employment in Denver, Colorado with Newmont Gold Company, where he retired in November of 1994 as VP-Finance.
God was very much an integral part throughout his life. Don battled through and was a survivor of colon cancer for 33 years as well as melanoma of the eye for 30 years , which left him without his left eye. These two events alone stand out as to how he put his faith and trust in the word of God to heal and bless him with a long, happy life. One of his first prayers to God was that he lived to know his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. And so he did, being very active in all their lives. He attended church and taught various levels of Sunday School and Youth Programs. His last years while Janet was still alive were spent very involved with Bible Study in their community at Anthem Ranch and Bible Study and Chapel at Rocky Mountain Christian Church in Niwot.
Don is survived by his four children Sheila Lawson, Mike (Laura) McCall, Karen (Don) Lawson, Jerry (Teresa) McCall; grandchildren Leanna, Kristin, Kelly, Rachael, Matthew, Jessica, Daniel, Erik, Rebekah, Ashley, Jonathan; great grandchildren Ella, Lily, along with a brother-in-law and wife, cousins, and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, mom and dad and only sibling, Glendene Murphy.
