Born on November 9, 1935, in Denver, Colorado, to Frederick and Emma Hoffman, Donna was the youngest of six children. She grew up in the Sloan's Lake area of Denver and was active in Brownies, Girl Scouts, church activities in the Methodist Church, and Job's Daughters through the sponsorship of her father, earning Guardian of the Door. She also assisted her father in charitable activities through his work as a Shriner. Donna attended Edison Elementary School, Lake Junior High School, and graduated from North High School a year early so she could marry the love of her life, Thomas Hoy.
Donna and Tom met by chance at Sloan's Lake during a square dance, beginning a love story that would span more than seventy years. They were married on August 5, 1953, and together raised four children: Thomas, Charlene, James, and Sandra.
Family was always at the center of Donna's life. She and Tom enjoyed camping, fishing, picnics, family vacations, and adventures throughout the Colorado mountains. They shared an interest in Native American history and culture and were active with the White Buffalo Council of Denver. Donna also loved baseball, from childhood trips to Denver Bears games with her father to years of cheering on the Colorado Rockies.
After receiving training in medical insurance through Emily Griffith Opportunity School, Donna worked as a medical transcriptionist before beginning a long career with Mountain Bell and its successor companies. She retired after 30 years of dedicated service.
A breast cancer survivor, Donna faced life's challenges with courage and faith. She and Tom were also active members of Denver's Happy Hobos Square Dance Club, enjoying fellowship, travel, and lasting friendships.
Faith remained the foundation of Donna's life. She and Tom were longtime members of Fellowship Bible Church in Edgewater. Above all, Donna wanted her family to know Christ and one day be reunited together in heaven.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Emma Hoffman; her siblings, Gwen, Lorraine, Donald ("Bud"), Louis, and Neil; and her husband, Tom.
She is survived by her children, Thomas (Stacey) Hoy, Charlene (Mike) Ostmeyer, James Hoy and Janet Monson, and Sandra (David) DiLorenzo; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Donna will be remembered for her steadfast faith, deep love for family, generous heart, strength through adversity, and unwavering concern for those she loved. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
