Dorothy Georgia Herbertson was born on June 11, 1926, the second of nine children born to George and Mabel Reisbeck. Dorothy was born in Hermosa Beach, California the only one of the children born out of state. She lived most of her life in Colorado and she attended school in West Denver, Barnum grade school and West High.
She married Fred July 4, 1943 and they were blessed with three children, twin sons, Fred Dale and William Gale and daughter, Kenda Kay. Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, brother Harold, daughter Kenda, brother Kenneth, brother George, and sister Betty. Surviving Dorothy are her four sisters, Darlene Reed, Annette Rowland and husband Richard, Myrna Lane and Joyce Burke and husband Don. In addition she is survived by her sons Dale and wife Crystal, Gale and Vicki Snyder, grandchildren Chris and wife Tricia, Steve and wife Kari, Cindy and husband Myles Folger, and Tami Herbertson and her great grandchildren, Joe and Ally Herbertson, Bailey Herbertson and Drew, Calan and Shaely Folger and many nieces and nephews.
Instilled in Dorothy and her siblings was a high work ethic. During high school she worked at the Honey Pot Restaurant riding the trolley car to downtown Denver. Sometime after the children were born, she started her career in retail sales working evenings at the Joslins Department Store. This led her in to selling toys with so much success that she earned a trip for her and Fred to Paris, France. Dorothy soon moved to working for Home Interiors and Gifts where she advanced to Branch manager for the territory of North and South Dakota, Wyoming and Colorado with 800 sales representatives working for her. Dorothy retired from her successful career and continued in business with the purchase of a car wash.
Her hobbies were varied from flower design, bowling, reading, jewelry making and cooking. Her hands were never idle.
She enjoyed traveling the world with her good friends Al Rybolt, Norma (Rybolt) Waddell, Eva Mayes, Pat Archer, Norma Ridgeway and John Trinkle. Mystery trips with Ports of Call took her to exotic locales like the Amazon and Peru, Bali, Thailand and China and Poland when the tour was the first after Poland received its independence from the Soviet Bloc. She visited most of Europe with Fred and daughter Kenda. Dorothy enjoyed annual trips to Mazatlan, Mexico but cherished most of all her many years of sister reunions throughout the United States. While she loved her travels, she loved coming home to family and friends.
Dorothy moved to the Wind Crest Retirement community almost six years ago and enjoyed and was active in her life there. As evidenced by the video she lived her life to the fullest loving all of her family gatherings. After a year of struggling with the increasingly debilitating effects of congestive heart failure, COPD and diabetes Dorothy left us on October 17, 2013. She was a talented lady who will be so missed by all of her family and friends.
