Dorothy (Davidson) Parrino, 91, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2015, in Denver, Colorado. She was born on October 10, 1923, in Springfield, Missouri, to Vern Davidson and Minerva Huntley. Dorothy grew up in Springfield and met the love of her life, Vincent Parrino, while they were both students at Southwest Missouri State College. They were married nearly 71 years and had 5 children.
A kind and gentle soul, Dorothy most enjoyed the love of her family and the frequent gatherings and celebrations held over the years. After marrying Vince who was of Italian heritage, Dorothy became quite the expert in delicious Italian cuisine, but also relied on her Missouri roots of good old fashioned home cooking. Her pies, especially apple and cherry, were without equal.
For many years, Dorothy worked in the Fine Jewelry Department at JC Penney, and during that time purchased some lovely pieces for herself and her daughters. After their retirements, Dorothy and Vince took tours and cruises, enjoying their travels and learning about new places. She took art classes and transformed the beauty of the world into paintings which decorate her home and those of her children.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, her parents, and beloved daughter, Nancy Ann Parrino.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Vincent Parrino; 3 daughters, Susan Parrino Hester, Mary Breakfield, and Julia Parrino George; and son, Joseph Parrino. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Katie Hester, Julia Marie Talley, Christina Robison, Michael Robison, Alan George, Anna George, Sarah Parrino, and Benjamin Parrino. She is also survived by three siblings: sisters, Mary Ruth Edwards and Helen Rumage; and one brother, Joe Huntley Davidson.
Private Family services are to be held at Olinger Crown Hill’s Chapel of Peace, 7777 W. 29th Ave in Wheat Ridge, on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at eleven in the morning.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any contributions be made to the Wild Animal Sanctuary, 1946 County Road 53, Keenesburg, CO 80643, in the spirit of Dorothy’s love of wildlife.
