Dorrine Ellen Wiedeman- Buxmann was born in Timnath Colorado to John Wiedeman and Katherine Strohman- Wiedeman on October 20, 1925. Her parents immigrated to the U.S. from Russia before Dorrine was born. Dorrine was the only girl out of five boys. She grew up in a farming community in a time when the work was hard and the people had to be strong physically, mentally and emotionally. She still possessed all of that hard earned strength on the day that she took her last breath.
Dorrine's Father John died on the operating table when she was only nine years old, leaving her Mother Katherine to raise the six children alone. Katherine decided to move the family to Windsor Colorado to seek help from her Mother in-law. John's mother had Dorrine and her four brothers pick beets in her fields. Other family members tried to help when they could.
Dorrine attended Windsor High School, home of the "Windsor Wizards", where she met Walter Buxmann. Shortly after graduation, Walter joined the Navy to fight in World War II in 1942. Dorrine took a job as a "Soda Jerk" at 'Frazier's Drug Store' located at Fifth and Main in down town Windsor. Dorrine and Walt continued exchanging letters and photos and their love grew despite the miles between them.
Dorrine decided to take a brave risk and moved to the big city of Denver Colorado and took a job at 'Conrad's Music Shop' and later 'Gates Rubber Co.'. Walter returned from the service in 1946 and joined her in Denver. They spent a year getting re-acquainted with each other, and the two were married on December 6, 1947 on their lunch break with only a $1.50 between them. They had faith that they would make it and they did.
The happy couple welcomed the first of their four children, Lynette in the Spring of 1948. The three of them moved to Worland Wyoming, where Walter and Dorrine had their second daughter Mary Ellen in 1951. Walter worked as an auto-body mechanic and Dorrine stayed home with her two young daughters.
In 1955, the family returned to Denver where their two sons were born; Wayne in 1957 and Walter Jr. three years later in 1960. They made the decision that Dorrine would stay home and raise the children. Times were tough and they lived by the motto "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without". They managed to get by somehow.
When their youngest son Walter Jr. was old enough to go to school, Dorrine returned to the work force in 1966. She worked as a Rollei camera inspector at Honeywell. In 1972 Walt and Dorrine moved to their home in Aurora.
Dorrine retired from Honeywell in 1982, one year after their first grandchild, Sara, was born. Walter continued to work as an insurance adjuster for State Farm. In 1986 a second grandchild, Travis was born and two years later Vance arrived. Walter retired in 1989, a year after Vance was born.
Walter and Dorrine played a very active roll in their grand children's lives. Sara would spend every-other weekend with them and most school holidays and Travis and Vance would come out from Georgia every summer to stay with them too. Sara later lived with Dorrine at her home in Aurora for several years.
They bought a motor home and took several trips touring the scenic U.S., enjoying their retirement. They also took several camping trips with their daughter Lynette and her husband Bob. Dorrine's most recent trip was to Florida with her son Walter Jr. and her daughter Lynette.
Dorrine was a talented artist and she painted several landscapes, she took classes at the rec. center by her house and watched 'Bob Ross' on PBS. She really loved to tend to her garden where she grew; huckleberries, corn, rhubarb, radishes, cucumbers, snap peas, raspberries, carrots and zucchini. She also had rose bushes, wild flowers, a cherry tree and an apple tree. Dorrine also loved to cook and spend time with her friends and family. She enjoyed reading harlequin novels and watching he soap opera "Days of Our Lives".
She was an excellent listener and always cared a great deal for those around her. Her kindness and generosity were apparent in every action. Dorrine ALWAYS put others first. She was a good daughter, kind sister, loving mother and the best grandmother and a great friend.
She was an amazing lady that will be greatly missed by everyone that knew and loved her.
