It is with heavy hearts that we share that Edna Franks (Schmelzle) passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, just 4 hours shy of her 95th birthday. She was born on April 27, 1930 to William & Ruby Schmelzle in Denver, Colorado. She had 3 siblings: Betty Brockmeier (“Brock”), both deceased; Russell “Buddy” Schmelzle deceased in childhood; and Lois Smith (“Bud”, deceased). Edna was married on May 22, 1949 to Jack Franks, deceased on August 9,1995. They had 3 children: Donna Kummet (Tim); David Franks (Judy); and Diane McDowell (Larry). She is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 1 step grandchild, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 step great- grandchild, and 1 great-great-grandchild, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Edna had many interests and hobbies, plus a deep commitment to helping others, especially those in need. She volunteered at hospitals, knitted sweaters for disadvantaged children, along with collecting food and clothing for their families. Animals were her passion, so she became a foster home for many dogs and cats over the years that needed her love and attention. Edna will be missed by all who knew her; however, she has left us with over 9 decades of wonderful rewarding memories of the times that we spent with her. We love you – Rest in Peace!
