On December 15, 2018, Elizabeth “Betty Jane” Cummings, passed away peacefully in Evergreen, Colorado.

Betty Jane Fielder was born on May 22, 1928, in Fries, Virginia, where she graduated from Fries High School in 1936. She went on to study nursing at Jefferson School of Nursing and graduated from John Hopkins School of Nursing. Upon graduation, Betty joined the United States Air Force where she met Gus Cummings. After a whirlwind romance, the two married on July 3, 1953. Betty Jane continued with her career as a nurse for 45 years, specializing in surgical nursing. She was a committed professional who stood out for her intelligence, compassion, and dedication. Betty Jane also loved spending time with family and friends; it was her passion and happiness. She was an avid supporter of her grandchildren and their number one sports fan. Betty Jane’s grandchildren played many sports - football, baseball, soccer, and lacrosse – yet she rarely missed a game. She was also a fan of the Denver Broncos and Virginia Tech “Hokies” and she dedicated every Saturday and Sunday to following her favorite teams.

Betty Jane is predeceased by her husband Augustus (Gus) W. Cummings, and survived by her children Augustus W Cummings III (Mary Cummings) of Brush, Colorado, Michael S. Cummings (Lisa Cummings) of Fairfax, California, Linda J. Chalat (James Chalat) of Evergreen, Colorado, and Pamela J. Cummings of Westminster, Colorado.

She is survived by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren who she adored. Jason Cummings (Ethan), Alexandra Chalat, David Cummings (Conor and Curtis), Amy Thamm (Audrey and Allison), Ben Oldemeyer (Mila), Michael Cummings, Rachel Chalat, Grace Chalat, Sarah Washburn (David, Bentley and Dani), Harris Chalat, and Parker Cummings.

A private memorial celebrating Betty Jane’s life will be held after the holidays. For those wishing to honor her memory, the family suggests donations to the Denver Rescue Mission.
