

Elizabeth Ann McCarty, age 90, passed away in her sleep on May 5th 2014 in her home in Arvada, Colorado. She was born on April 23, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Bertha (Jones) and Edmund Allen. She spent her childhood on a farm near Garden Grove Iowa, and graduated from Garden Grove High School in 1943. She then went to work in Des Moines, Iowa as a secretary for an insurance company. Elizabeth met Robert R. McDonald in Des Moines, Iowa, and married him while he was on a 30 day leave from the Navy on November 7, 1945. They were married until 1967 and they had three children together. She had a successful career as a legal secretary for the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office from 1964 through 1986 serving four DA’s. She worked on the major cases of the time involving murder and racketeering in Jefferson and Gilpin Counties. Elizabeth met Robert A. McCarty in 1998 through mutual golfing friends, and married him on May 5, 1999. He died on November 28, 2012 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. She loved to read, play golf, embroider, knit, and enjoyed a good glass of wine. She was intelligent and lived independently until the last day of her life.
Elizabeth is survived by her three children and their spouses: Gary & Doneen McDonald of Arvada, CO, Sheryl & Robert Kurtz of Roxborough, CO and Steve & Peggy McDonald of Centennial, CO; her brother Robert Allen and his wife Linda of Allerton, IA; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Helen Allen Hinebaugh of Kansas City. MO. Graveside service will be Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery.
