Elizabeth “Beth” Whited, the independent super star of the family left this earthly life on Tuesday, March 27, 2018. Born January 16, 1943, she grew up in Elmo – a small town in Northwest Missouri where she attended school with 12 classmates from 1st grade thru graduation. Right after high school graduation, she was recruited to play on an A.A.U. basketball team in Missouri. From there she moved to Des Moines, IA where she played basketball for Look Magazine. This team travelled to many states playing other company owned teams in the Women’s Semi-Professional basketball league. Moving to Denver in 1962, Beth worked for St. Anthony Hospital as a dedicated employee for 20 years -- eventually assisting in the design and implementation of the first computer data processing system. Always free with her opinions and fearless in her approach, Beth served on the Lochbuie, CO Town Council during the critical phase of obtaining city incorporation – drafting grants for water and sewer funds. Beth was also a part-owner of the Frontier Restaurant in Keenesburg, CO from 1979-1983 where she worked her second job as the evening cook.
Despite a challenging and inspiring career, Beth was still able to equally devote time to her personal life. She could often be found heading out in an RV or off on a boat to go fishing. She was fortunate to be able to travel extensively and see the world through several cruises. She enjoyed taking chances at the casino and more often than not came home a winner. Beth was a true friend to those fortunate enough to know her and an amazing big sister to her younger siblings. All who knew her will miss her honest, down to earth approach to life. Beth’s strength truly showed in her five successful battles with cancer along with being a stroke survivor of 37 years.
She is survived by her siblings: Ben (Donna) Whited of Yukon, OK; Jo Rourke of Broomfield, CO; Jack (Arlene) Whited of Castle Rock, CO; Janie Whited of Everett, WA. Also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death was her parents, Harold & Mary Bishop Whited, sister-in-law, Jeannine H`ebert Whited and brother-in-law, Jerry Rourke.
Visitation will be Friday, March 30, 2018 from 5-7pm, graveside service, reception to follow will be Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 2:30 pm both at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery.
