Elsie Louise Burkett

Elsie Louise Burkett was born October 11, 1926 to David and Anna Weber in Brighton, Colorado. She was the youngest of 6 children. She attended school in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School in 1944. After high school, Elsie went to California to attend Long Beach Community College where she lived with her older sister, Emma. After graduating from college Elsie returned to Colorado and over the years worked as a secretary for the Bureau of Land Management, and various other secretarial positions. She concluded her career by working in the banking industry for Colorado State Bank.

Elsie was blessed to have 3 sons – Mike, John, and Ken McBride. In 1961 Elsie married Guye Burkett and together they raised Elsie’s 3 sons.

After retiring, Elsie participated in the Ms. Senior Colorado Pageant and was crowned Ms. Senior Colorado in 1995. After her reign was completed, she became the director of the Colorado Pageant for several years.

Elsie loved to sing and dance, and started up a group of seniors who traveled around the Denver Metro area entertaining at a variety of events and venues.

Elsie was devoted to her family who all adored her. She and Guye were blessed with 2 grandchildren, and at the time of her death, Elsie had 7 great-grandchildren.

Elsie passed away peacefully from this earth to walk eternally with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the age of 87. She is survived by her 3 sons: Michael Patrick McBride of Williamsburg, Virginia; John Robert McBride (Lynette) of Canon City; and Kenneth Wayne McBride of Aurora, Colorado. Grandchildren: Heather Caitlin Ainsworth (Joshua) of Thieusies, Belgium; Ryan Christopher McBride (Elise) of Canon City, Colorado. Great grandchildren: Lucas, Ethan, Logan and Colten Ainsworth of Thieusies, Belgium; Noah, Elijah, and McKinley McBride of Canon City, Colorado. Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, David and Anna Weber; husband of 26 years, Guye Burkett; sister Emma Davison (Sid) of Yuma, California; brother Fred Weber (Nadine) of Edgewater, Colorado; sister Mary Hegler (John) of Denver, Colorado; brother Dave Weber (Lucille) of Denver, Colorado; brother Albert Weber (Gloria) of Greeley, Colorado.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Cremation will take place following the funeral services.

Our love and sympathy to all of you! I know it has been way too many years since we have seen any of you guys but our memories of you all are wonderful ones! Aunt Elsie was the best --loved her and Mother always said she was one of her favorite people in the world!! She is remembered with love and a smile!!

Mike, I remember your Mom mostly for her kind and gentle spirit. She always was a peace maker in the family and willing to listen to your friends (like Chuck, Rick & me) even when very busy. She always took time and expressed compassion to all who she met. She will be missed greatly!!
