

Born December 6, 1918 in Inland, NE to Harry Erwin and Ella (Peterson) Scherich. He entered the U.S. Army in 1941 and became a Platoon Sergeant. He was discharged in 1945 as a Staff Sergeant with Company A 129th Airborne Engineers Battalion. Erwin was united in marriage to Jessie Mae Funk.
He was a student at Hastings College from 1937-39; N.C. State College, 1943-44; BS, U. Nebraska, 1948; MS, U. Colorado, 1951. Erwin was a registered profl. Engr., Colorado Civil and design engr. U.S. Bur. Reclamation, Denver, 1948-84, chief spillways and outlets sect., 1974-75, chief dams br. Divsn. Design, 1975-78, chief tech. rev. staff, 1978-79; chief divsn. Tech. rev. Office Asst. Commr. Erwin was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ella Scherich; wife, Jessie Mae Scherich; son, Mark Thomas Scherich; daughter, Jerilyn Mae Dobson; and infant granddaughter, Julie Rae Thornton.
He is survived by his daughter, Janna (John) Thornton; grandchildren, James David (Pam) Thornton, John Robert (Laurie) Thornton, Jerilyn Rae (Paul) Carr, and Jeanne (Greg) Allender; great grandchildren, John, Eric, Jackson, Maddie, Lucas, Brandon, Kayleigh, Jenna and Paige.
Visitation, 10-11am, Saturday, August 8, 2015 and funeral following at 11am, at Wheat Ridge United Methodist Church, 7530 W. 38th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
