

Eugene (Gene) passed away January 15, 2026, in Castle Rock, Colorado, after suffering from a long illness. Gene was born May 12, 1937, in Boulder, Colorado, to Fritz C Picker and Velma Louise (Ward) Picker. The family moved several times to other states for his Dad's work. When Gene was in the first grade they moved back to his parents’ hometown of Western, Nebraska, where Gene spent his formative years. Gene graduated from Western High School in 1955. He attended one semester at the University of Nebraska and then decided to move back to Colorado. There he met Priscilla Marie Johnson. They were married in 1960. They lived a short time in Lakewood, Colorado, and then bought a home in the mountain community of Indian Hills, Colorado. Through this union two children were born, son Randy L Picker and a daughter Vanessa R Picker.
Gene pursued a career in Electrical Engineering. He worked for several engineering firms in the Denver area until his retirement.
While living in Indian Hills he became a volunteer fire fighter and EMT. He was promoted to Fire Chief serving for 20 plus years.
Gene was known for his many adventurous stories and his passion for trains. After moving to Castle Rock, Colorado, in 1989 he joined the Rocky Mountain Rails and Colorado Live Steamers Train Clubs.
Gene was proceeded in death by his parents and his younger brother Donald Picker.
Gene is survived by his children, Randy (Margaret “Mags”) Picker of Castle Rock, Colorado, daughter Vanessa (Rick) Mourhess of Bailey, Colorado, and four grandchildren including Wesley (Lauren) Kartus, Andrew Picker, Adam (Jo’Ann) Picker, Brooke (Rigel) Stephenson and nine great grandchildren, his Sister Carol Arkland of Louisville, Colorado, and many nieces and nephews.
