Evelyn Nieuwenhuis was born on April 27, 1935. Evelyn was the third of four children that Lambert and Jennie (Klein) Rozeboom had. Evelyn was born near Sheldon Iowa. She attended the country school through 4th grade and then went to the Archer school through 12th grade. On November 12th, 1954 she married Eugene Nieuwenhuis in Sheldon Iowa. Eugene was in the Air Force in Sacramento California, she moved there until Eugene was discharged. They lived there together for 2 1/2 years. Dennis (Karen) their oldest son was born in California. They moved to Denver after being discharged from the service. They had two daughters Joyce (Brad) and Carol (Dick) once they moved to Denver. They have five grandchildren Paul, Shelly (Rick), Corey (Erynn), Chris (Lorie) and Nathan. One step Granddaughter Christine. Seven Great Grandchildren Leslie, Rachel, Dylan, Carson, Alexis, Grant and Holden, and three step Grandchildren Willow, Tate and Alexa.
Evelyn and Eugene owned Gene’s Bicycle & Lawn-mowing shop for twelve years. In 1982 Evelyn was employed at Applewood Baptist Church as the Financial Secretary for 13 years. After their retirement they were able to do quite a bit of traveling and loved spending their winters in Casa Grande, Arizona.
Surviving is her brother Donald (Phyllis), her children, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Eugene, Grandson Paul, Brothers Marion (Mary Helene) and Allan and her parents.
