Floyd Blass Martinez, 67, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on June 19, 2025. Born in Monte Vista, Colorado, Floyd was a free spirit who lived life on his own terms, always with heart, humor, and an unwavering devotion to his family and country.
Floyd proudly served in the United States Army, a role he cherished deeply. His sense of duty was so profound that he returned to serve in the Army Reserves just shy of the age of 50—one of his proudest accomplishments.
Floyd had a gift for bringing joy to others—whether through his generous spirit or his excellent cooking, a talent he inherited from his beloved mother Lydia. He had a deep compassion for those in need and often looked out for the less fortunate. Whether working at the YMCA or during daily outings, Floyd was known to quietly help children in need, ensuring no one went hungry on his watch.
In his later years, Floyd could often be found on walks, still seeking out a bit of mischief, or enjoying coffee and the newspaper at his sister Sue’s house. He lived simply but fully, cherishing life’s small pleasures and sharing his life stories, even when the audience was too young to hear.
He was the beloved son of Lydia Gonzales and Alex Martinez, and is preceded in death by them as well as his brothers Freddy and Leonard Martinez.
Floyd is survived by his loving daughter, Natasha Day (Brian Day) and grandson Lucas; his siblings Susie Fernandez (Dede Cannon), Sandra Soto, Gene Herrera, David Herrera, Mike (Taco) Martinez, Anthony Martinez, and Tom Martinez. He was deeply loved by his family and friends, and his presence brought laughter, comfort, and a sense of adventure to those around him.
Services to honor Floyd’s life will be held on July 9th at Crown Hill Memorial. A viewing will begin at 11:00 AM, followed by a service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 2:00 PM, with full military honors.
Floyd’s legacy of service, love, and individuality will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
The King has left the building.
