Frederick Morris Hoff III, 84, of Lakewood, Colorado passed away on February 21, 2019. Fred was born in Alamosa, Colorado on October 24, 1934 to the late Frederick Morris Hoff II and Czerna Ruth Morris.
Fred lived in the San Luis Valley until 1944, when his family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, it would be one of many moves for Fred throughout this life. His all-time favorite place he lived was Marionville, Missouri, where he lived on a farm with an apple orchard. When he was a teenager, he moved to Great Bend, Kansas, where he graduated from Great Bend High School. While in Great Bend, he built hot rods with his friends, worked multiple plumbing and heating jobs with his father, and spent six weeks at a Chicago ballet school. His love for hot rods was not just a hobby, he was a founding member of Sunflower Hot Rod and Custom Association. Fred was instrumental in bringing the NHRA Nationals to Great Bend. Soon after, he joined the Kansas National Guard and served for four years. Fred was an intelligent man, he spent a total of three years between Wichita University and Fort Hays State.
After schooling, Fred moved to Colorado and enlisted in the United States Air Force at age 22. While in the Air Force, Fred was assigned to a base in Wyoming for diesel engine school and then on to Dry Hill Air Force Base in Watertown, NY where he was working on a radar site and later met his wife to be, Deanna Docteur. The couple was married on April 11, 1959. Twelve weeks after marrying is loving bride, he was stationed in Iceland where he worked on a radar site with power generation. In 1960, Fred got out of the Air Force and moved his family back to Denver, Colorado where he started his “official” career in heating and air conditioning, which lasted over 50 years. Deanna and Fred had four children together: Leanna, Frederick “Fritz”, Dirk and Heidi.
Fred was a man who was hard working, a perfectionist, who maintained a wonderful sense of humor. He loved auto racing, especially the Indianapolis 500, fly-fishing and tying flies. Fred also had love for his 1965 Ford Pickup. He tore the truck down to the frame and rebuilt it into a multiple award winning show truck along with a custom teardrop trailer he designed and built. He will be remembered for his musicianship, singing and dancing, wood working, auto body and mechanic skills, and gardening green thumb. Fred was a dedicated man to the things he loved, his church especially. He was a founding member of St. Jude Catholic Parish in Lakewood, Colorado. He was a member of the American Legion and the Sunflower Hot Rod and Custom Association.
Fred is survived by his wife of 59 years, Deanna; children Leanna Marie Boers, Frederick Ralph Hoff IV, Dirk Alan Hoff, and Heidi Lynn Lipsey; grandchildren Caitlin Marie Mancini, Cameron Frederick Boers, Kyler James Hoff Depakakibo, Peyton Lorraine Lipsey, Madison Faith Depakakibo, Brian Samuel Hoff, and Nathan Charles Hoff; siblings Virginia Lea Harris and Bessie Jo Owen.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents Frederick Charles Hoff II and Czerna Ruth Hoff.
