Frieda B. Elisha Hunter of Denver Colorado passed away on October 7, 2024, at the age of 66. She was born on April 17, 1958, in Carbondale, CO. Her birth was to portend a life of unique challenge and adventure, having been born on the kitchen floor at home along with her twin brother Kevin. She spent her early years growing up primarily in Arvada, Dove Creek and Walsenburg. Her adult life was spent in Boulder and Denver, Colorado.
Frieda attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and subsequently graduated with a B.S. in Physical Therapy from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in 1982.
Frieda had a 35-year working career as a Neuro Development Trained Pediatric Physical Therapy Specialist in the Neonatal Care Unit (NICU) and served as a Clinical Instructor for a number of years.
Frieda loved ‘her babies’ and was the recipient of the prestigious Unending Excellence Award. Upon retiring from UCHealth, Frieda opened a private practice, Little Steps Pediatric Physical Therapy.
On her domestic side, Frieda loved being a mother, gardening, sewing (she made her wedding dress with her best friend!) and baking (the best!).
On her adventurous side, Frieda was an avid cyclist who often participated in Ride the Rockies, STP (Seattle to Portland) and RAGBRAI (Registers Annual Great Ride Across Iowa). She had season passes and loved to snowboard and X-Country Ski. She loved hiking the Colorado mountains, especially the Aspen to Crested Butte trail over West Maroon Pass. She was a very proud graduate of the Colorado Outward Bound School.
Frieda and a group of nurse friends ventured to Calcutta to meet and then teach at Mother Theresa’s orphanage, bringing several children back to the US for adoption. Before coming home, they ventured to Nepal and went on a Himalayan Tea Circuit Trek.
As her Parkinson's disease took hold and she started rapidly declining, she found spiritual growth and inspiration through the Virtues Project, which seeks to inspire people to live by their highest values and practice these virtues in our everyday life. It’s foundation comes from the world’s great wisdom traditions. The Virtues Project are tools for personal growth and healing, and a path to deeper meaning, purpose and joy in our lives. As a beloved member of a Pace of Grace online group, she shared her own legacy of love, loyalty, generosity creativity and joyfulness. She sparked new friendships around the world and uplifting others through her courage and determination. She could be heard singing ‘If your happy and you know it…’or optimistically saying ‘see you on the other side.’ She said that the Virtues Project had saved her life and she wanted others in difficult situations to experience it. In her honor, a scholarship fund has been established. To learn more or to contribute, please go to @virtuestraining .com Pace of Grace page and see the Frieda Elisha Hunter Scholarship Fund.
