Gary Lynn Rigg

Gary was born on September 28, 1944, in Annawan, Illinois, to Dale and Mildred Rigg. At a young age, his family moved to Colorado, where he grew up and graduated from Wheat Ridge High School.

Gary proudly served in the Colorado National Guard. Following his service, he built a career working for both the Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News, retiring in 2006.

Gary had a lifelong passion for cars, tractors, and just about anything with an engine. He especially loved hot rods and spent countless hours enjoying and collecting the many “toys” that brought him happiness. He also enjoyed collecting hats, model cars, tractors, and other unique treasures that reflected his playful spirit.

Gary was happiest when he was sharing those passions with others. Family and friends will fondly remember the many hayrack rides and tractor rides he delighted in giving, creating memories for children and adults alike. He was also a familiar face in the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade, proudly participating year after year and enjoying every opportunity to celebrate with his community.

More than anything, Gary will be remembered for his youthful spirit, infectious smile, and wonderful sense of humor. He had an incredible ability to make people laugh and feel welcome. He was never shy about offering a compliment or expressing how proud he was of those he loved. Whether spending time with family, talking cars, or simply sharing a laugh, Gary’s joy for life was evident to everyone who knew him.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Mildred Rigg; his son, Eric Rigg; his partner, Ruth Fahrenbruch; and his brother, Dick Rigg.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Liisa and Steve DeClute; his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Ashleigh Rigg; and his cherished grandchildren, Katherine DeClute, Emmily DeClute, Claire Rigg, Charlotte Rigg, Catelyn Rigg, and Simon Rigg.

A simple graveside service celebrating Gary’s life will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Olinger’s Crown Hill Cemetery.

Gary’s family will remember him for the laughter he shared, the pride he had in his family, and the youthful spirit that never left him. His smile, kindness, and unmistakable sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.”
