

George passed away on October 16th, 2016 at the age of 90. A long time resident of Golden, Colorado, he is survived in death by his sisters Emmaline O'Hara and Eleanor Curto; sons George W. Jr. and Michael.; and Grandchildren Emily (Volland) Fransen and Zachary Volland. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Marie (Flynn) Volland and Second wife, Carol (Tascher) Volland; and his parents, George W. and Edna Volland.
George was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He attended North Arlington High School and Blair Academy, where he was an outstanding athlete in both football and track. He later attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY where he studied business. George also served in the US Navy during World War II as Special Assistant to then Admiral James Forrestal, who was appointed Secretary of the Navy by FDR in 1944.
During his long and distinguished career in business, George served as senior marketing sales executive, for company's such as Goodyear Tire and Rubber in New York City and the Ozite Corporation in Libertyville, Illinois. His proudest accomplishment however, were the 25+ years he spent during his "second" career as a Financial Advisor in Golden; where he helped many families with his sound guidance and thoughtful advice. George often commented that his "clients" were really more like family to him and of all the jobs he had ever held, this was the most rewarding and he loved it the most.
Funeral service for George will be held 2:00pm Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Olinger Crown Hill- Pavilion of Reflections, 7777 W. 29th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO. Burial to immediately follow at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in George's name may be made to Judi's House, 1741 N Gaylord St, Denver, CO 80206 or Foothills Animal Shelter, 580 Mc Intyre St, Golden, CO 80401.
