It is with immense love and hearts full of sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Geraldine Marie Ferguson, also known as Gerri or Deanie, who remained at her home surrounded by those she loved until her final moments on September 24, 2026.
Gerri was known for her sense of fairness, compassion and, most of all, her amazing sense of humor. She never gave up when things were difficult and had an incredibly strong work ethic. Gerri devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, always seeing to their needs before her own, often referring to them as her light and love. Gerri was a strong headed and stubborn woman, in a charming and endearing way. She was a selfless matriarch who loved her family passionately and unconditionally.
She was a first generation American, born on October 9, 1942 in Paonia, Colorado to Croatian immigrants, John and Mary Ann Kuretich. She was raised and worked on her family's farm along with her 10 siblings, 9 older and 1 younger, until she finished school in 1960. Upon graduation, she moved to Denver to join her family who had moved prior to her graduating. Gerri then married Lee Ferguson with whom she welcomed the proud birth of her daughters, Shamaine and Cimian. Gerri held a career with United airlines allowing her to travel to many places, including Hong Kong, all over the continental US and, of course, Hawaii, which served as a special tradition for her and her daughters to visit. Gerri loved her grandchildren with her entire being, and loved being a grandmother. She took immense pride in her grandchildren, supporting them through every sports event, school event, and all of life’s events, good and bad. She always made sure, no matter the circumstance, to be there.
Gerri absolutely loved to be outside. The weather and time of year made no difference, Gerri was going to get some fresh air. She thoroughly enjoyed walks through nature (as long as there weren’t any snakes) and going on drives in the mountains. She, of course, loved her sweets, frequently requesting ice cream, chocolate or candy. Her spunk, stubbornness and strong willed spirit remained until her final moments.
Gerri is survived by her loving brother, Gary Kuretich, Daughters Shamaine(Jim) Skinner, Cimian Ferguson, Grandchildren Andrew (Jenna) Skinner, Branden (Sarah) Skinner, Morgan Skinner, Austin (Ashlee) Skinner, Sydney (Max) Ferguson, Maxwell (Veronica) McCann, and her great grandchildren Taylor, Drake and Brayden Skinner. She is preceded in death by her mother Mary Ann Kuretich, her father John Kuretich and her siblings Tommy Kuretich, Rod Kuretich, Bob Kuretich, Bettie Kreusel, Isabelle Kuretich, Mary Helen Kuretich. Annie Marquez, Caroline Goodboe, and Johnnie Buss.
A memorial service will be held Friday October 9, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Crown Hill Cemetery, address being 7777 W 29th Ave Wheat Ridge, CO 80033. Following the service, friends and family are invited to the celebration of life reception at Prospect Park W. 44th Avenue and Robb Street Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
