Gregory Earl Abelein was born in Minot, North Dakota on March 11, 1952, to Rex and Anne Abelein. Greg moved to the Denver/Lakewood area in 1962 with his family. Greg passed peacefully at his home on March 29, 2026.
Greg graduated from Lakewood High School in 1970 followed by receiving his associate’s degree in Geology from Colorado Mesa College, Grand Junction in 1972.
Greg started a 48-year career in carpentry and woodworking in 1973 when he was hired by Essco Products as a cabinet maker. Greg joined the local Carpentry Union in 1981. In 1985 upon completion of the apprenticeship program, he received the PCL Special Award given to the top apprentice in the class. The words to describe Greg by PCL; Desire, Integrity, Leadership, Workmanship, Ability. These were all traits inherent to Greg.
Greg worked for many contractors over the years, but he knew when he landed with Collins-Keissig GC/Cadre GC in 1992, he had found his home. He remained with the company as their Master Carpenter until his retirement in 2021. Building and remodeling high-end custom homes was the pinnacle for Greg as he was a true craftsman, always giving full attention to detail and perfection. Greg was always the last man on the site being entrusted to make sure the interiors look just right for the homeowner.
Greg met his wife Monica Roberts in 1978. They married in 1979. Greg’s proudest achievement was being a father to his two sons, Daniel and Tanner and grandpa to Charlee, Colson, Adleigh and Vivienne.
Retirement brought lots of time to spend in the garage tinkering with his wood creations. If it was time to Bar-B-Que, Greg was at the cooker. The more people in the backyard to feed, the better. Greg was always in full glory standing by his charcoal grill.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Rex and sister, LeeAnne. He is survived by his wife, Monica; sons, Daniel (Shelby) and Tanner; grands, Charlee, Colson, Adleigh & Vivienne; mother, Anne; and siblings, Michal and Nathan.
We will miss you Greg, but we will never forget you!
