

LT. COLONEL GROVER "BILL" VICKERS, of Golden, Colorado, was born January 16, 1927 in Privett, Kentucky and passed on December 16, 2010. He served in the US Army during World War II, and then attended the University of Kentucky, receiving his Bachelor's degree in Commerce in 1951. After graduation, he served in the US Air Force for 26 years, rising to Lieutenant Colonel and earning the Legion of Merit Medal.. the highest medal awarded during peace time. He served as Director of Data Automation for the Air Force Accounting and Finance Center, and Director of computer Services at Metropolitan State College . He was awarded Metro's "Distinguished Service Award" and was listed in the 1984 publication "Who"s Who In The West". Bill enjoyed travel, ballroom dancing, fishing, hiking and 4-wheel touring. He loved family and people. He was generous, kind, caring, funny, and had a strong faith in God. He is survived by his wife Florence Vickers; daughter Beth Bartolini and her husband Jack; son Don Vickers; step-children Steve and Barb Bates, Ken and Deana Bates, Annette and Danny Pankoski; grandchildren James and John Vickers, Susy, Johnny, Jimmy, Sean and Dustin Bates, Katy Meek, and Lacey Brown; as well as three great grand children. Funeral Service, Wednesday, December 22nd at 12 noon, Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
