Irene is survived by her children Judy (Dave) Aschermann, Jerry Buckley, and Janet (Nick) Bonadonna, grandchildren John (Kathy) Aschermann, Brian Aschermann, Joy (Tom) Nix, Laura (John) Swanson, Lindsey (Will) Beas, and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Pat Golob, niece Deb Golob, and longtime friend Teresa Hunyadi. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, son Jack Buckley, brother Robert Kayes, and nephew Tom Golob.
Irene was the longest working employee at St Mary Corwin Hospital admissions office and records and worked until she was 78 years old. As a single parent life was hard and her faith in God helped her through the many challenges and heartaches in her life.
She enjoyed playing bridge and attending Red Hat groups. Mostly her passion was her beautiful home and yard. Irene's son was always there for her helping with all the chores in the house and yard. Her sons-in-law also pitched in to help. Favorite pastimes included playing sports. She could hit a softball out of the park, was a 200 bowler, the best server on her volleyball team, could twirl a baton, ice skate and snow ski with the best of them. She loved to dance and often was the life of the party. There was a spark of mischief in those blue Irish eyes when she smiled. She was stubborn and she was fun.
Her travels took her to many places. The Vatican in Rome where she stood not far from the Pope was a favorite along with kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland. She loved trips to the mountains with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, camping at the lake with her friend Teresa, Tuesday night dinners with family, and Thursday luncheons with friends. She kept up with our twelve-hour days in Disney World and Disneyland. Michigan brought new adventures with her grandson’s family.
Her family was the love of her life and she will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her kind heart, and contagious laugh.
